Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage?

Having trouble deciding which route to take? Compare the two below:

Original Medicare

Step 1:

• Includes Part A (Hospital)
• Includes Part B (Medical Insurance)-premium required
• You have your choice of doctors, hospitals, and other providers.

Step 2:
If you want prescription drug coverage, you must join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (Part D).

Step 3:
Enroll in a Medicare Supplement Plan.

• This coverage will fill in gaps in coverage.
• It covers such items as deductibles, coinsurance and copays.
• Costs will vary by product and company selected.

Medicare Advantage

Step 1:
Select a Medicare Advantage Plan from a private insurance company approved by Medicare.

• You need to use the plan's doctors and hospitals.
• Part A is included.
• Part B premium is required.
• Part D is usually included.

Step 2:
If you have particular doctors that you wish to keep, find out if that plan includes your doctors. This may make your selection much easier.

Step 3:
If you want drug coverage, in most cases, you must receive one through the Medicare Advantage Plan. Select a Medicare Advantage Plan with a Prescription Drug Plan included.
